Who are we besides Less Litter?

We’re industrial designers and cyclists from California.

What is 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel?

Not all stainless steel is created the same. 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel is not "stainless steel", "high quality" "metal", plated, galvanized steel, or aluminum. 316 Austenitic Stainless Steel Grade is used to make Swiss watches, surgical instruments, and marine applications due to its extremely high corrosion resistance. This is above high-end commercial kitchen equipment grades such as Miele and All-Clad. This steel is highly valuable, and desirable, and not many consumer products are made of 316 stainless steel. At the end of Less Litter Box’s usage, they can be melted down and repurposed as new and turn into something useful to the world again, infinitely without degradation.

There is a dedicated Marine Grade Stainless Steel specialty section at Home Depot. Visit your local Home Depot store and do further research.

What about those stainless steel food tray litter box?

Stainless steel food trays that are currently sold as a cat litter box are made of 201 stainless steel and have been dipped in a chemical bath to slow down corrosion. This is one of the lowest stainless steel grades that is used for applications intended to be replaced. Actual product value and the production cost of these trays are ~$8.

Modular Design & Manufacturing Process

What is Unibody Design?

Less Litter Box is designed without seams, crevices, rivets, adhesive, joints, dead corners, interlocking or moving parts to truly last a lifetime. Our goal is to not have repeat customers replacing litter boxes and parts, the world cannot afford to be wasteful and cannot afford plastic litter boxes.

Why Modular Design?

Less Litter Box System is designed to be modular and purchased separately as needed. This is to encourage mindful consumption and reduce unnecessary consumption.

Why round?

Cats biologically move in circular motions when they eliminate. Less Litter Box circular interior allows cats to fully utilize its entire unobstructed interior space and make full circular motions whereas rectangular litter boxes are restricted to their narrowest measurement.

Design & Manufacturing Process

We do not outsource design, tooling or mold creation. All of our products are researched, designed and manufactured by us, Less Litter.

Each Less Litter Box is hand and machine-made individually not stamped out of a machine on an assembly line like a plastic box. This means allow ~0.25 inch tolerance on each side of the diameter, uneven surface pattern, light scratches and light visible welding line, this is a normal occurrence for steel production at Less Litter Box sizes and thickness.

When stainless steel is new, it’s natural to have light visible scratches. They become less visible over time as the material is used and becomes even finish.

Raw Material

All of our materials exceed US, and European Union standards, including Germany.

316 Austenitic Stainless Steel (Third-party certified in Switzerland)
100% Platinum-Cured Silicone (LFGB grade, European Union standards, including Germany.)

Type of Litter & Scoop

What kind of litter can I use?
Any litter type can be used. We highly discourage using clay-based and scented litter. They are harmful to inhale and harmful to our planet.

Do I need a special scoop for a round litter box?
No, you do not need a special scoop for a round litter box. Use any type of scoop of your choice and scoop by following the circumference of the litter box.

Does it have a non-stick coating?
No, we do not use non-stick coating or finishing. Non-stick coating is plastic. Not only non-stick coating is toxic for all animals, humans and environment but also requires frequent replacement because they chip and wear out quickly with digging and scooping scratches. Our products are designed and set up to last a lifetime.

How to prevent litter sticking on the bottom?
Keep the litter level above the Minimum litter level line indicated on the box. Greater depth is the best method. Keep the litter level so that the clumps cannot reach the bottom no matter how much your cat digs. Addition to this method, Less Litter Box interior is fine satin finished to reduce sticking.

Care & Maintenance

DO NOT
Do not use abrasive substances or steel wool. Do not leave stainless steel to soak in solutions that contain chlorine, vinegar, or table salt, as long-term exposure.

How to deep clean?

2. Empty the entire box
3. Gently scrub with Bar Keepers Friend (powder version) and rinse
4. Soak it in hot water + natural, unscented dish soap or castile soap for 5 minutes and rinse
